Oedema is a condition characterized by the accumulation of excess fluid in the body's tissues, resulting in swelling. Although not a disease on its own, edema is often an indication of an underlying health issue. It can affect various parts of the body, particularly the hands, ankles, legs, and feet. Common causes of edema include pregnancy, hot weather, and excessive consumption of salt and coffee.
In Ayurveda, there are simple home remedies that can help manage this condition. One such remedy involves boiling three tablespoons of coriander seeds, also known as Tonya, in a glass of water. Continue boiling until only half the water remains, then strain the mixture. Allow it to cool and drink it twice daily.
However, it's important to note that individuals who are already dehydrated or have a shortage of water in their bodies should avoid practicing this mudra. Additionally, during cough, cold, and congestion, when water retention is common, performing the Jalodar Nashak Mudra can help alleviate symptoms such as a runny nose, excessive mucus, and watery eyes.
